New York Fashion Week Favorites So Far
At the very least, Betsey Johnson will make a killing selling legwear for Fall 09. Betsey also cut back on super frilly party frocks to make room for some flirty skirts and everyday jackets. Her collection was small and a bit all over the place, but she crammed in a lot of her signature fun stuff. The crazy legging, bold belts and fun accessories will keep customers coming to Betsey when they can't afford the higher priced trendy items. However, Betsey's runway cartwheel was great missed since she did a presentation instead of a show.
Donna Karen brought simple, sleek, classic looks to the runway for FW09. Almost everything was cinched at the waist and wearble. These basics didn't lend much variety to the runway, but they will keep Karen's line going in tough econmic times. The only things I didn't understand were the furry arm warmers found in several looks.
The Eighties are back with a big-shouldered vengeance at Marc Jacobs. There were a lot of colors, a lot of crazy print tights and a lot of shoulders that I do not think will fit through doors. The collection was rather large so even if the bold clothes aren't your style there still a chance you'll find something you like. I want these tights (left), this dress (center) and this coat (right).
William Rast had an all-American look rocking the runway. It was back to basics with lots of denim and black with a little fringe for women. The men actually had some better looks with a little more edge.
What I love about Diane von Furstenburg, besides everything, is her love of print and color on classic shapes that make women look good. Her collection for Fall featured darker colors but didn't shy away from usuing them in bold ways.
