Vintage Loving Websites

I frequently post about vintage stores that don't carry obviously vintage items, but some women really want to look like they stepped out of a period movie. (I completely identify. I love to dress like a 1950s housewife and flit around the grocery store. The ladies at the deli find it delightful.) If you're trying to figure out how to make your retro style just perfect, the new-fangled internet is one of your best sources.

-- Art Deco covers fashion of the Jazz Age through portraits of celebrities and freshly discovered fashion plates. The same bloggers has similar sites for the Flapper and Edwardian periods.

-- Find detailed galleries of fashion illustration from the 1920s-1950s at the clearly named site 1920s-fashions.

-- Study fashion from 1900-1990 at The Costume Gallery. This website even includes full scans of antique and vintage fashion books and catalogs.

-- Fashion Pictures focuses on the 1950s-70s.

-- Be inspired by everyday people from the Life archives.

ahhhhaha....whew. ya know...whenever I comment on your blog, it usually has to do with vintage or maybe even talking about something I have in my shop...I hope that isn't against some code of blogging...trying to rep my own stuff on YOUR blog...I'm kinda new at this. A while ago you wrote about a vintage shop that you liked because the clothes didn't scream 'i'm from a vintage shop!'...I was thinking oh man...I'm the complete opposite. I went out to my fiancé's show the other night (at a dive bar where most people are wearing black tees and jeans) I wore a 70s gunne sax, corset bodice, floor length, brown velvet, calico floral, frilly dress. Comments ranged from 'you look like a german beer girl' to 'look! she just step outta the Sound of Music!' SO, my point is, thanks for these fun websites and identifying with my love for looking vintage.

Tractordog, I had somehow missed your vintage shop, then I found it last week completely independently. In fact, you'll be one of our featured stores next month.

I think it all has to do with intent. Sometimes I just want a vintage dress because it's better made and a little quirky, but I don't want anyone singing "9 to 5" at me in the office. Other days, I want to be Ginger Rogers. My personal vintage collection runs the gamut of happily dated to shockingly fresh.

Thanks Jael, that really makes my day! If you were standing in front of me I'd probably slobber all over the place because I just peddled home from the dentist after getting 2 cavities filled...heh.

I'm going to make an effort to get all my clothes posted to the store...75% of my inventory isn't even on the site yet!
