Love or Loathe: The Military Trend

As I've mentioned, I love the military trend. Mostly, I love big shiny buttons and buckles and cuts that contrast with the girly side of my wardrobe. (Plus I look great in olive and navy.) My execution of the look is more decorative Napoleonic than functional Desert Storm. Certain items born of military utilitarianism, like the trench coat and cargo pant, have even become wardrobe staples. Even so, wearing cadet caps and fatigues can seem a little odd while we're trudging through a never-ending war. Depending on how you wear the items, you can be presenting yourself as supporting the military or turn the look into a parody. You can also just look trendy.

Do you have strong or mixed feelings about this trend?

I love the structure, shiny buttons, and buckles.

I often mix up Military with Marching Band Chic...which I find infintitely cooler.
I love the military look, but not everyone can pull off those colors and cuts. I too can wear olive and navy, I guess I trade it, for the inability to wear white.

I used to love the military trend when it was just becoming the new buzz but now I'm kinda meh about it. I guess I'm getting sick that it's absolutely everywhere. Just like gladiators. Meh.

I love the look, but its not for everyone. Some guys and gals look incredible in the sleek, sharp look while others look awkward and cumbersome.

I love the way that military clothing feels solid and structured, but never uncomfortable.

I love it. The army greens are so perfect for fall and I love when a good military piece mixes girly and tough in just the right way! xx

I'll always love it because it often resembles a more nostalgic military era than the present; a romanticized version of Napoleonic times, Prussian Empire, even pre-colony wartime. The heavier embellishments in military fashion trends rarely appear on modern uniforms.
