Grammy 2011 Red Carpet Favorites
Florence Welch from Florence and the Machine was far and away our best dressed. This detailed Givenchy couture is lovely against the backdrop of her creamy skin and fiery hair. It manages to pull out the hat-trick of being subtle yet memorable, quiet but breath-taking. (Of course, maybe it just felt quiet against the backdrop of angels and eggs.)
Our other ensemble kudos go to Best New Artist winner Esperanza Spalding. That shade of green is very hard to wear, but it's perfect with her skin. The crazy neck ruffle is balanced out with her picked out pompador. Best of all, she accessorized with pastel shoes (pink or lilac?)
A few accessories stood out in a loud, tumultuous sea. Kevin McHale, a.k.a. Wheelchair Kid from Glee (that I could never learn the names of the grating kids is one of the reasons I stopped watching) was wearing a harness over his suit jacket. Way back in 2008, I waxed poetic about my love of holsters and harnesses, so of course I was a it giddy to see a man wear a weird accessory.
I'm also crazy-go-nuts for big, bright, Japanese style tattoos. (For the record, I do not have any tattoos as they're sort of go big or go home for me.) While Margaret Cho's dress isn't particularly interesting, it highlights her beautiful tattoos. Bonus points for the dark lipstick, Maggie. You look a little dangerous and lots of fun.
