Review: Cetaphil Brand Cleanser & Moisturizer
I've written before that I have extremely sensitive skin. In fact, even most products marketed for sensitive skin have ingredients that irritate my skin. To add to my problems, I also have a lot of allergies. If any products contain certain plant or nut extracts, I might have an allergic reaction. The same goes for anything containing soy or coconut. I was happy to accept the opportunity from Blogher and Cetaphil brand to try a few products that might be gentle enough for my tricky skin.
As a result of my sensitive, allergy-ridden skin, I haven't been able to find a body wash that works for me in ages. Bar soap has been my only option--until now. Thanks to Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, I have a softening body, face and hand wash that won't irritate my sensitive skin or inflame my myriad of allergies. The word 'gentle' in the name is key. It is oh so gentle. (Some of the body washes I've tried seem so heavy or cloying or even overly-moisturizing or too astringent with their cleansers). This simply left me with nice soft, clean skin. No red bumps. No flowery odors. No allergic reactions. (And no need to take my EpiPen in the shower with me). In fact, it didn't even have that chemical smell that I notice in a lot of sensitive skin and fragrance-free products. It didn't really smell like anything. I like that.
I also had the chance to try out Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer with SPF 15. I need to put a quick disclaimer here--my skin is so sensitive that even gentle products containing SPF will bother me a bit. That said, this is by far the mildest I've ever used. I haven't used it long enough to know if I can keep using it on a daily basis without irritation, but I would certainly be able to use this when I knew I would be going to spend time outside. It didn't result in the instant irritation that most SPF products cause when they come in contact with my skin. I'm really happy I've found something I can wear when I head out into the sun. (I will probably cheat in the summer and use this as an all-over SPF rather than just on my face).
I had dermatologists recommend Cetaphil products in the past, but I don't like change and assumed they'd be expensive so I didn't try them. The cleanser cost $9.29 for 16oz, which is more than I pay for soap, but a lot less than some of the fancy cleansers that say they are sensitive skin-friendly. The bottle is pretty big too. It should last a while. Plus, the results are worth the price for me. The moisturizer cost $11.29 for 4oz, which isn't much more than I pay for moisturizer anyway.
I found Cetaphil products all at the stores where I normally shop, so I won't be hunting to find them when I need more. I'm very happy to be going into winter, the dry skin season, with some new products that will cater to my sensitive, allergy-prone skin.
Cetaphil brand is offering readers a $3 coupon so they will have the chance to try the products too. Click here to save up to $3.

I don't know if this would be an option for your sensitive skin, but I have given up on using soap in the shower. Instead, I mix table salt with olive oil into a scrub. My skin is so dry! Sugar could be used instead of salt, if you're worried about it stinging before or after shaving your legs.
